Comrades took a point home after a stalemate in an evenly fought game in Castlederg.

The visitors started brightly and in the eighth minute they came close when Ryan McMenemy got on the end of a ball played over the top of the home defence and made space for a shot from inside the box. However, his effort went just wide of the target.

Dergview had an effort on 24 minutes. McGavigan ran across the face of the box before hitting a shot which went just over the bar.

Comrades then had an opportunity in the 29th minute. A free kick sent Ryan McMenemy free at the left side of the six-yard box, but he couldn’t steer his resulting effort past the keeper.

The best chance of the first half was created by the hosts on 37 minutes. Russell got free attacking up the left side before playing the ball into McGavigan who was free in the box. He looked set to give his team the lead but slid his effort wide of the far post.

In the 45th minute Comrades had a chance when good set up play from a corner gave Nathan Best space for a shot from inside the area, but his attempt drifted wide of the post.

The second half saw both sides struggle to create chances against well-drilled defences. Whilst Dergview had marginally more of the attacking play, they couldn’t breach a disciplined Comrades rearguard.

Comrades could only create half chances. The best of these came in the 78th minute when a free kick played into the box saw the ball break to substitute Cameron Alexander who blasted his effort over the bar.

At the final whistle, both teams had to be content with a point, which was fair reflection of the game.
