It was a case of one team taking their chances and the other not as Comrades lost out to Queen’s at The Dub.

The hosts had the better of the opening period of the match, with Comrades having to defend stoutly to keep them at bay. However, the visitors began to get a foothold in the match towards the end of the first half, and they created two good opportunities. On 36 minutes Zach Anderson was played in by an excellent through ball but couldn’t beat the ‘keeper. Then, four minutes later, Lewis Mearns surged past two opponents to open up a chance, but the keeper was quickly out to block his effort.

Somewhat against the run of play at the time, Queen’s took the lead in the 42nd minute with Young bundling the ball home from a cross to the far post.

Within a minute of the start of the second half Comrades levelled the scores when Daniel Gordon produced a good finish from the edge of the area.

The hosts were soon back ahead however, when in the 50th minute Mairs headed home from a cross.

Comrades had a decent chance to equalise again on 57 minutes when Jack Johnston crossed to the back post were Ryan McMenemy was unmarked, but his header went narrowly wide of the target.

Queen’s added to their lead in the 83rd  minute when Hughes was played in to produce a clinical finish.

Two minutes later the visitors then came close when Rhys McGarry stung the keeper’s hand with a powerful shot from 25 yards. Lewis Mearns was there to get onto the rebound but fired his shot over the bar.

A poor clearance gifted the home side a fourth goal at the death, allowing Bonnar to advance unchallenged to finish with ease.
